Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I just moved here. How may I find out which high school is ours?
A. Students are assigned to high schools based upon the home address. If you are not sure which high school is your home school you may call (714) 903-7000 Ext. 4110 to verify school boundaries.

Q. How do I enroll my student in high school?
A. Call your home high school and set up an appointment for registration. A new student packet of school information and parent signature cards may be picked up earlier at the switchboard so that you may have it completed when the appointment date arrives.

Q. Is there anything else I should bring to the registration appointment?
A. It is helpful but not required to bring your last report card, any test scores you may have. If you are transferring during a semester the student’s withdrawal grades from the previous school will allow us to match the coursework and help the student earn full credit for the semester. If you entered the United States during high school, proof of age is required (a passport is acceptable).

Q. Are the schools all open year around?
A. No, all schools are closed several weeks after summer school is completed, starting around the last of July.

Q. What are your graduation requirements?
A. The diploma requirements and other information related to the development of your educational plan is in the Freshman Planning Guide. It will be helpful to you to review the Planning Guide and the various ways the high school diploma may be earned.

Q. My sophomore student has remained in home schooling all his life. Will the credit I issued in my home school count toward your diploma?
A. No, when a parent teaches the student at home it does not result in transferrable credit. It is preferred to have home schooled students enter in grade nine. Fortunately when entering as a sophomore there is time for several summer sessions and Learning Center makeup of the missing credit. Ask for the development of a plan to successfully complete the diploma when you register for classes.

Q. Who do I contact to register my younger children?
A. There are four elementary districts serving youngsters in kindergarten through eighth grade: Huntington Beach City Schools, Fountain Valley School District, Westminster Elementary District and Ocean View Elementary District. By contact the district office you may check your enrollment eligibiity status which will also be based upon your address.

Q. My eighth grader was not promoted from middle school and does not want to return to eighth grade this year. May he enroll?
A. No. By state code the high school may not enroll a student for ninth grade until proof of promotion is received. The K-8 district must give permission before the high school may enroll a retained student.
