MCJROTC Curriculum

Leadership Education I–IV (LE I–IV) is a progressive four-year program designed to develop responsible citizens, confident leaders, and lifelong learners.


Program Overview

Purpose: Instill citizenship, service, personal responsibility, and leadership through structured academics and experiential learning.

Structure: Each course builds on the previous, integrating Marine Corps values, civic education, health, and physical training.

Credit: Each level (LE I–IV) counts as one elective or PE/CTE credit per district policy. Students may enroll for multiple years.

Leadership Education I — Introduction to Leadership

Focus: Orientation, citizenship, and self-discipline.

  • MCJROTC mission, customs, and traditions
  • Drill and ceremony fundamentals
  • Basic leadership traits and principles
  • Citizenship and community service
  • Health, hygiene, and physical fitness
  • Uniform wear and inspections

Outcome: Cadets develop discipline, confidence, and personal responsibility.

Leadership Education II — Applied Leadership & Citizenship

Focus: Intermediate leadership and civic engagement.

  • Chain of command and team dynamics
  • Ethical decision-making
  • Communication and counseling basics
  • Intermediate drill and commands
  • Community service planning
  • Physical fitness and goal setting

Outcome: Cadets apply leadership principles as active team members.

Leadership Education III — Advanced Leadership & Management

Focus: Supervisory leadership and mentoring.

  • Leadership styles and situational leadership
  • Supervision and motivation
  • Staff organization
  • Public speaking
  • Financial literacy
  • Inspection authority

Outcome: Cadets manage teams and mentor junior cadets.

Leadership Education IV — Executive Leadership & Service

Focus: Executive leadership and program management.

  • Battalion-level planning
  • Event management
  • Peer instruction
  • College and career readiness
  • Community engagement
  • Leadership portfolio

Outcome: Cadets serve as role models and program ambassadors.


Assessment & Grading

  • Leadership & Participation: 50%
  • Uniform & Inspection: 20%
  • Physical Training: 20%
  • Tests & Projects: 10%

All grading aligns with district policies and MCJROTC standards.

Leadership progression from LE I to LE IV: foundational citizenship to advanced mentorship.
